Cool Mic

I have an iPod Touch 2G. Got this to record my stand-up classes and ended up using it for interviews as well. Great recording quality, easy to use.

You do need to purchase the iTalk premium app ($2 or so) and make sure you download Italk Sync to your computer.

Great quality, even in less than stellar rooms with lots of background noise.

Can’t go wrong with this, esp considering the price.

Only drawback: you can’t listen to it while you’re recording because it uses the headphone jack. But, I just set it and forget it until I’m done recording.

Then I sync with my Mac and open with iTunes. Done. I’ve even dropped it into Bias Peak and other audio editing programs so I could send portions of the audio to classmates.

All very convenient and quick.

A Good Start

I am a developer, but I know nothing about the iPhone or iPhone app development, so this book sounded perfect for me. It’s a very quick read: I read the whole book (< 160 pages) on a 3 hour flight to Boston. The prose is clear with very little fluff, but did I learn much about iPhone apps with HTML, CSS and Javascript? This raises the big question that was not clear to me when I started reading: who is this book for? It is clear that this book is not for someone who has no prior knowledge of HTML or CSS, or JavaScript. The tutelage on HTML and CSS is razor-thin. If you do not understand these languages, your head will swim very quickly. I have worked with both languages for a couple years, and yet I felt pretty unsatisfied with the skeletal explanations of some of the examples. The Javascript coverage was even more spartan. I am not a Javascript person; I know just enough to tweak simple code I have found on the Internet. I have no clue to some of the book's example code and what it means. Overall, I found this book was not written to be a tutorial at all. It is a bare introduction to the iPhone environment for a developer who has considerable experience in these languages. And to Stark's credit, he does does state in the Preface that this book is for people with "basic experience reading and writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript (jQuery in particular)". I was not aware of this assumption, so be aware that you may have some rough going. On the up-side, however, there is some very interesting material in this book. I did learn something about the iPhone development environment, and the iPhone style of presentation. Now I know to look into Cocoa, jQuery and JQTouch. I also have to credit Stark for exactly limiting his presentation to provide a development option to Objective-C and submitting to the Apple Store. His last two chapters really interested me. Using PhoneGap to convert an iPhone web app to a native app was pretty thorough. Doing this conversion makes two distribution options available to the developer. And once your application is coverted, Stark's last chapter on "Submitting Your App to iTunes" really tied together some loose ends for me. Overall, I found this little book pretty helpful. It may not merit a second reading, but I have to offer it this praise: it has given me a foundation to start learning more detail, including writing in Objective-C.

Saved me hundreds of dollars, tens of hours

I have always used my iPod Touch religiously since the moment I got one. I’ve always wanted to build apps for it – but these were my obstacles:
(1) I don’t have Mac OS
(2) I can’t afford to invest hundreds of dollars into something I’m not sure is the right choice yet (Mac OS, Apple Developer program, books, etc)
(3) I build in VB.NET/ASP.NET, I use Visual Studio .NET. I curse them daily, but I like them.
(4) Have you heard what developers are saying about the App Store? It doesn’t sound very friendly. I built apps on Facebook before, it doesn’t feel that great to have a huge company telling you what you can and can’t do. It’s their right, of course, but an obstacle for me.

This book really surprised me – because it basically has the answers to the above obstacles. Namely, a web-based application approach. There are negatives, sure (I would say animation being the biggest one) – but the absolute beauty of this approach is that those negatives will eventually become less important over time. A big part of this approach is a reliance on open source jQuery plugins. Stark introduces these open source authors and projects succinctly and with full respect.

Before you go down the Objective-C route, give this book a shot. It made me seriously rethink a bunch of assumptions that I had made about an iPhone application. That alone was well worth price. Plus – look at what this book covers in the first few chapters, then compare that to the Objective-C/Cocoa books. This is a faster approach if you already have a web application in place.

On a side note, this books (with some tweaking) could make a good high school textbook. Teenagers today have a good grasp of HTML and CSS (see: Tumblr), and can be introduced to more advanced topics like jQuery and data storage if they see a benefit to actually learning it.

Gets around some of the ugliness of dealing with Objective-C

As an IPhone app developer you’ve probably found that Objective-C is difficult to learn, rather counter-intuitive in syntax, and not very useful outside of the Mac programming world. Also, trying to get an app into the App store is like dealing with airport security – byzantine rules unevenly enforced and guaranteed long waits. Updates also take long time periods, and if your updates are in response to bugs you can quickly get a bad rep as a developer. This book shows you how to use commonly and long-used web technologies to build your application as a web app, have it tested on the web where you can quickly make changes in response to bugs, and then when you are ready, the book shows you how to use PhoneGap to convert your web app to a native iPhone app.

This book assumes that you have basic experience reading and writing HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, SQL, and jQuery. The author has a very brief overview of these technologies in the book, but it isn’t enough if you lack experience, and it is duplication of what you already know if you have experience. The book largely avoids the iPhone SDK but you will need access to a Mac for the material in Chapter 7 on PhoneGap. This is the chapter where the author shows you how to convert a web app into a native app that can be submitted to the App Store.

The book is short, but it is adequate and clearly written for the task at hand. I’d recommend it to anyone who is tired of dealing with Objective-C and is looking for an easier way to write and test IPhone apps.

DIDN’T WORK

I got the phone and I went to activate it and nothing. Spent an hour on the phone with AT&T and then another hour at the store. Then spent 30 mins at the Apple store. THANK GOD it was still under warranty.

Factory Unlocked iPhone 3GS

Well, I actually bought this phone from FGS Trading, I’m very very happy because it arrived in less time that I expected.
This phone is for my son he loves apple products and i saw it and touched it and I’m very glad with this seller cause it really is a factory unlocked iPhone there was no problem with the other companies and the box was with the factory plastic wrap.
I would really buy again with this seller I’m very happy.
PS: The best phone I’ve ever seen.

flawless preformance

I’ve had this phone for more or less three months and I have to admit that the 3GS experience is immaculate. From the user interface to the app store with everything you could possibly ask for and much more- I am more than happy with my purchase. I personally like the 3GS model more than the 4G due to the build of the phone. I feel that the 3GS withstands more usage/physical damage than the 4G with is composed of a mostly glass surface.

The only reason why I’m giving this phone a 4/5 stars is because it tends to heat up excessively after 3-4hour video chat sessions on Skype. But nonetheless, this is still the best phone to ever exist!

Fantastic case, even better value

I’m about as happy as I could be with the Impact case. Carrying around a slippery, glass-fronted device, I was primarily looking for a case that would provide good energy dissipation in the inevitable event that I drop-kick it across a room when fumbling for keys. As such, an unyielding hardshell case just wasn’t ideal. The fitment, bracing, and silicone material of the Impact are a well-thought-out means of limiting shock intensity (although I thankfully haven’t tested it to any considerable extent).
The Impact fits the phone snugly, provides a good textured grip for the hand, and doesn’t drown out the mic and earpiece like poorly-fitted units. All slides and buttons are easily accessible – perhaps even more so than without case since my hand isn’t slipping all over the glossy shell. Relatedly, the Impact adds very little size to the phone and weighs next to nothing.
The included screen protector works great too – I’d heard of rainbow refractions and a slightly-milky appearance, but cleaning the surface well beforehand and working carefully resulted in a crystal-clear application. Can’t tell it’s even in place. No complaints on that front.
I could do without the circular port on the back of the case, but it does nothing to harm structural integrity and it displays my MS sticker effectively. It will certainly do the same for the Apple logo, however! The thickness of the silicone protects it from most direct scratchin’ contact.
My second option in terms of cases was the Otterbox Defender, but I felt the Impact would suffice for day-to-day protection, and thus far this has certainly proven to be true.

Stoked!!

I work for the Fire Department and was looking for a rugged case that could stand up to the abuse I was expecting to put it through. After purchasing this product, I am confident my phone is fully protected from the elements. I will say, it does make the product a little bulky, I tend to put my phone in my pocket and not wear it on a belt clip. It’s bulky but doable. It was a good purchase and I’m glad I bought it. One thing I will mention about it, is that it didn’t come with instructions on how to put it in the case, and it literally took me about 15mins. to figure it out. Also, after market car charges and docking stations will not work with this case because the connection is too deep in the case. Knowing those two things, I would still buy it.

one solid case

Case is light weight but gives a good hand grip. It’s a real solid case. I dropped my phone from a subway platform to the track 5-ft below. When the maintenance worker retrieved it back for me, the phone didn’t even have a single scratch and still works like normal. If you’re looking for case to really protect your iPhone, this is it!

I got this item yesturday. It took 12 hours for it to charge!!!! It didn’t have any battery till the last two hours, once it turned on, I couldn’t hear anything through the phone. I had to turn the speaker on (in that case all the people in my office could hear the other party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I called costumer service but they didn’t answer, I put a message, I wonder if I can return it?!

Definitely Not OEM Apple Headphones

These are definitely not OEM Apple headphones. All the reviews claiming that these headphones are indistinguishable from the original headphones that came with their iphone must not be looking very hard. These headphones are don’t use whatever anti-tangle tech that the original iphone headphones use. The wire on my original headphones feels rubbery, responsive, and soft, the wire on these headphones feels plastic-y and flat and is prone to tangle. The actual earbuds are different too. You can see through the grill into the hardware beneath which I can’t do with my original headphones.

They didn’t come with any Apple manual either. So don’t believe that lie.

On the positive side, the mic does work as advertised and the sound quality isn’t too bad. For the reduced price they’re decent enough. But don’t expect the actual Apple headphones.

Don’t buy these. You think you’re buying what the product image is “The real Apple headphone/mic” – but you get some knock-off version that has the mic about 1′ away from your face. The seller should put the real image of the product they sell and stop cheating buyers.
